Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 Today's verse from the YouVersion Bible App spurred my thinking about Election Day tomorrow. During the 2020 election season I found myself drowning in turmoil, exploring every conspiracy theory I could find, and placing all of my hopes on a candidate. My marriage was suffering, my health took a turn for the worse (I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months later), and my mind was full of negative thoughts and emotions. I'm so thankful for God's love and guidance and my husband's strong character. They finally made me realize there wasn't a thing I could control about the outcome of the election. I deleted my Twitter account, I stopped watching the news 24/7, and I instead focused on God and my family. Because at the end of the day - God is in control. Let's be mindful of what we put into our minds and focus on the Almighty. God Sees the Bigger PictureGod's wisdom and understanding go far beyond what we can comprehend. We see things as they are in the present, influenced by what the media and social circles present to us, but God sees the bigger picture—the past, present, and future. His plans are woven into every decision, and even when things may seem uncertain or unexpected, we can find comfort in knowing that He is working behind the scenes in ways we may not immediately understand. Turning to Prayer Over WorryElection season can bring about anxiety. We may worry about our children’s futures, the economy, social issues, and the direction of our nation. But instead of letting fear or worry consume us, we can turn those feelings over to God through prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” When we pray, we’re acknowledging that God is ultimately in control, and we’re invited to release our fears to Him. Teaching Our Kids About Faith and TrustAs moms, we’re often asked tough questions by our kids about why things are the way they are. Election seasons give us an incredible opportunity to teach them about faith and trust. We can show them that, while it’s important to be informed and responsible citizens, our trust ultimately lies in God, not in any political party or candidate. By talking openly with our children about the importance of faith and reminding them that God’s love and sovereignty remain steady, we’re building a foundation of peace and confidence for them in times of uncertainty. Our Role as Light-BearersIn the middle of passionate debates and disagreements, we can often feel pressured to choose sides or become frustrated. However, as Christians, we are called to be lights in the world (Matthew 5:14-16). This means showing love, respect, and grace to those around us—even if they think differently. Our focus should be on embodying God’s love, regardless of the political climate. This season, let’s choose to be a calm presence in our homes, on social media, and in our communities, setting an example of grace and patience. Trusting God’s Will, No Matter the OutcomeNo matter the outcome, our faith reminds us that God is still in control. The outcome of any election may surprise or disappoint us, but we can lean on Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” We can rest in the assurance that God’s purpose is always moving forward. Let’s go into this election prayerfully and confidently, with our hearts set on God’s unfailing love and perfect wisdom. Let’s support each other, pray for our leaders, and trust in His plan with the knowledge that His will is perfect, even when the world seems unpredictable.
